Katie:

Hello and welcome to my Husband Made Me Do it, the podcast where we review rom-coms that my husband made me watch. I'm your host, Katie Reynolds. And I'm Lydea Irwin. And today we are watching Results.

Lydea:

Yes, results is a 2015 romantic comedy, rated R, one hour and 45 minutes, and I watched it on Hulu.

Katie:

I didn't write down what I watched it on. I'm sorry it was probably Hulu, because I think that's where it's at.

Lydea:

This is an indie film, so it was a Sundance Film Festival film.

Katie:

Guys, I had such vibes that this was an indie film Chris mentioned he thought this was probably an Oscar bait type thing and I thought no, because no one ever heard of it. And then Ladea looked it up and yeah, no it's Sundance. It feels it feels, indie. It feels like it yeah.

Lydea:

So today's IMDb summary does come from IMDB #notsponsored. "Two mismatched personal trainers' lives are upended by the actions of a new wealthy client. I don't know about that, I don't. This is going to be really hard to talk about because not a lot happens.

Katie:

This is another one where not a lot actually happens. Also, if you're frantically flicking up and down imdb to remember like a character name, they did them in order of appearance. Guys, there's a hit training session in the first 10 minutes of the movie and all of the women in the training session are listed before so many of the other characters.

Lydea:

It's it's annoying because you're trying to find the people and I did manage to pull out, so how about we talk?

Katie:

about kind of our, our three big main characters. Give everybody kind of an overview of who they are. We're gonna start right off with danny yeah, we have danny is. Uh well, he's locked out of his apartment and there is a woman at the window who looks at him and then shuts the curtains.

Lydea:

Shuts the curtains I know, I don't think he's locked out as in, like he's forgotten his keys, the locks have been changed on him.

Katie:

Yep, he is professing his love and she's no, not having it, not having it.

Lydea:

And it's funny because you'd think in this scene that it's like oh, this is a new thing, she's just breaking up with him. Maybe he cheated on her or did something bad and she kicked him out. No, they're divorced. Yep, like, what a weird way to introduce a divorced couple.

Katie:

Yeah, yeah, so we have them. Yep, then we're going to go to our gym, where we have Trevor, who is the owner of the gym. Yes, he's not a great businessman.

Lydea:

No, he's got this great theory His gym is called Fit for Life.

Katie:

Yeah, there's a four Four. His gym is called Fit for Life. Yeah, there's a four Four Because he has four bullet points that you need to follow to be fit for life.

Lydea:

Physical, mental, emotional and spiritual.

Katie:

Uh-huh.

Lydea:

Yeah.

Katie:

Because no one has ever thought of that as part of a full body fitness regime before Never.

Lydea:

Katie Never, never done that.

Katie:

Brand new, new. So that's his vision. He, he's good with the vision, but we'll see he's a terrible businessman. We also have and we'll go back to you know kind of like the introduction of some of these characters to each other. We also have cat, our third main character, yep, colby smolders. Yep, chris is very excited. He loved he. Well, he loves her in um the marvel movies yeah, she's great in the marvel movies maria hill.

Lydea:

Uh, great in well, she's well. Uh, I don't know about great, but she is in.

Katie:

How I met your mother yeah, I prefer her as maria hill personally, anyway, anyway, so we have her. She's running, she runs a lot, she runs a lot, she runs an amount that makes me think she's gonna have neo shoes very shortly, but anyway, she's chasing a car on foot is she chasing the car or does she just run into the car? No, she knows where the car is going, and and so she cuts the car off, and that's when she throws herself on the hood of the car.

Lydea:

That makes way more sense. I thought she just happened to run into this car. No, she saw it.

Katie:

I think she saw the woman get into the car with the kid, saw it and then she ran over. I missed that?

Lydea:

Yeah, that makes a lot more sense.

Katie:

Yes, so we find out very quickly she is a trainer and the woman in the car has not paid her yeah, she's one of her clients and yeah she's.

Lydea:

She's behind on payment and oh, she just happens to be holding a cupcake and oh, it's around the birthday party. Oh, don't she's like. I'm not the food police. However, yes, you do have to.

Katie:

You do need to pay me. Yes, there are three main characters. Back up a little bit we have danny, just kind of completely out of the blue.

Katie:

Yeah, walking past trevor's gym yep he goes and he sees the hit class going on and he is immediately pulled into the sales pitch for this gym. He doesn't really care, he's a very twitchy guy. Yeah, he's, he's already sold, he just he wants training. And his whole shtick is he doesn't want to be stronger, he doesn't want to be fit, happy, anything like that, he wants to be able to take a punch. Yep, and trevor here, here, here. And trevor's reaction to it yeah is, oh, okay. So you want to do boxing? No, just wants to be able to take a bunch. So trevor, trying to be careful, sends the giant trainer who is training the uh, the hit class. He wants to send him to be the personal trainer, cause this guy wants to have lessons at his house.

Lydea:

Yeah, so this Danny is played by Kevin Corrigan, which, if you, if you like, kind of recognize him. He was from that TV show. He was like the brother on what was the TV show.

Katie:

He was also in several episodes of community.

Lydea:

Yes, he was definitely in community, but professor, professor's in, that's right his, his big one, though he was in one big one where he was the, the brother grounded for life never heard of it it was like a family show and he was uncle eddie and he's like this Italian New York.

Katie:

He's got the accent.

Lydea:

Oh, okay, so he's still leaning into that stuff. He's still leaning into it. Well, he's from the Bronx, yes, so that's the point.

Katie:

Right, we have. Yeah, so we soon find out. He has recently moved to Texas. Yeah, there they are, from New York, yep, and he's trying to start over. Yeah, so cat gets into a fight with trevor and with the lorenzo is the other trainer because it's supposed to be her turn to get a new client. She's a really good trainer. She has high ratings from all of her people and trevor says no, this guy was giving me weird vibes weird vibes uh I would rather, I'd be more comfortable sending a man.

Katie:

She's like what, like what was the problem? I don't know, he was just weird. Yes, so he is weird, he's twitchy.

Lydea:

he's a twitchy little guy and cat cat is liked by the clients, but but she's definitely got an edge. If you get on their bad side, there's definitely a bad side there. Well, absolutely, and her relationship with Trevor is interesting. We don't find out right now, but it's pretty obvious they have a history?

Katie:

Oh yeah, absolutely. And she can kind of push him around a little bit. A lot of it, a lot of it, and she ends up getting this client, yep, this, oh boy. So she ends up at Danny's house, a giant mansion of a house, empty. It's an empty mansion. He has maybe a couch here or there.

Lydea:

Eventually there's one unwrapped couch and one one wrapped couch yep, they're sitting across from each other.

Katie:

Eventually he's gonna end up with, you know, like three different chairs right next to each other. That aren't. There's no way that anyone would ever design a room to have three of those chairs right next to it's. It's weird and it's wild. He has money. He doesn't really know what to do with it because when she comes in, he, you know, he's like, okay, well, he wants training, he'll pay for a year or two in advance, doesn't really care, just sure, whatever. Yep, he's got a whole room decked out with not yet he's getting there for the, the training room.

Lydea:

Yeah yeah, he doesn't have it yet, he's gonna have it created based on her recommendations, or whatever.

Katie:

She gives him the basics. She wants him to photograph all of his food or write it down or whatever. So we get a shirtless pizza selfie.

Lydea:

It's a One slice.

Katie:

He's a bit of a weirdo. And then half the pizza, and then all of the and then half the pizza, and then all of the pizza. And we find out pretty quickly that, as she's trying to like diagnose what's going on there, he's horribly depressed and bored. I'm bored and depressed, but it's mostly this is depressed eating.

Lydea:

It's so depressed. This is depressed eating. He's in an empty house Like he has no friends.

Katie:

Yeah, can he maybe invite his friends over to enjoy the pizza?

Lydea:

Well, he doesn't have any?

Katie:

uh, yeah, he just moved like halfway across the world, it might as well be in a completely different place middle of texas we have him. He's watching videos, uh, of the gym, trying to get the philosophy. He's also watching, like the, her video on squat techniques and things like that.

Lydea:

That's what he's watching. Yeah, he's totally watching her video on squat techniques Well, but so yeah, he's interested in her? Yep, he is, he is, he's just watching her butt he is.

Katie:

But we do also find out that he is watching the other videos and he is doing it because he is interested in the whole gym and its philosophy and whatnot. So we've got him doing that. Then gym and his philosophy and whatnot. So we've got him doing that. Then we have him going, sadly, out to a bar by himself where there's dancing. It's a bar with live music and dancing. He's sitting there by himself.

Lydea:

He's trying to make friends. So he meets a weird attorney yeah, commercial attorney, which is great. He's got money.

Katie:

Yeah, you know he's gonna need someone to take care of his business yep, we've got some training sessions and uh, man, it does not take much to get her at the house smoking and no, uh, having a little fling with him no, we find out that the reason he has money is because two weeks after he got divorced, his mom died and his mom had married a very wealthy man who died before her and she just left him all the money left him all this money.

Lydea:

So he's a multi-millionaire and just doesn't he's. He's kind of glad that it all happened before or after he divorced his wife, because otherwise his wife would have half and she probably liked that yeah, yeah, probably would.

Katie:

So they're smoking pot and they are watching a show about mental health and awkward questions are being asked. Yeah, and that's when she uh, she rolls over on the ball.

Katie:

They start out making out, it's implied that they have sex yeah, thankfully we don't have to wait all we all we see is the the making out she is very hung over the next day and she tries to take a sick day. We also have trevor, again with his very bad business skills. He's looking at a very large space. He wants to expand the gym, yep, and it's unclear if this is going to be a completely new location or if it's going to be a second location, but it's huge. And my notes are just like don't overextend trevor, just don't do it.

Lydea:

He wants a smoothie bar and a yoga studio and he wants a therapist meditation, oh yeah, yeah yeah, therapist, because again you got to get all the four.

Katie:

Oh, yeah, right, right, right Right.

Lydea:

So yeah, we it's weird and he's definitely flirting with the real estate agent Yep, yep.

Katie:

And then, immediately after that, he goes and checks up on Kat to make sure she's okay, brings her some soup. She said she was taking a sick day. Yeah, and she's very hungover.

Lydea:

Yep, yeah, she's not looking great. She's clearly ill. Yeah, we just don't know why well, we know why. We know why he doesn't know why but and there's, there's clearly again, you get that background, not a full background, but you get those teasers of okay something something's going on has happened between the two of them is this, is this personal, or is this professional?

Katie:

oh, it's definitely not professional.

Lydea:

No, he literally went into her house and brought her soup.

Katie:

Yeah, speaking of, not professional. The very next thing, this is all in the first I don't know 20 minutes of the movie. We have kat going to trevor not trevor, excuse me going to danny's house to explain to him that. Yeah, what happened?

Lydea:

that was not okay, so he sends her a text for a makeup session because of the missed session from when she was sick at 8 pm and she's, she's gonna explain to him that they can't have a relationship.

Katie:

No, it was a mistake. Blah, blah, blah. He has hired a three-piece ensemble, yep and a chef, private chef.

Lydea:

Yeah, there's a nice candlelit dinner spread out and she's like nope, can't do this. She sits there for a second, listens to some jazz and then takes off. She's like nope, nope, nope, nope, nope. And they, they fight at his door, which?

Katie:

happens a lot in this movie yeah, that that door.

Lydea:

I mean it's a nice door, but there's a lot of door. Yeah, in this movie, that door could be its own character. And so they she's. She's real upset. She's like, dude, you gotta know this isn't, this isn't how this is gonna work. I, I, I can't. And he's like look you being angry at me doesn't stop me being turned on. It's like it's really doing it for me, it's it's.

Katie:

And she pushes him into the house and then close the door yeah, and then leaves so she lets trevor know that she's basically fired him as a client. Yep. And she said I hope, yeah, I hope you deposited that check, because it was a $25,000 check. Yeah, and guess what Trevor, our fantastic businessman, did not do.

Lydea:

It's. It's been a couple of weeks of training. At this point, like you, should have deposited the check.

Katie:

Absolutely. He's just a terrible business owner. He didn't even know how much the check was for.

Lydea:

He didn't even look at it and danny has called and put a stop order on the check. Yes, so yeah, that's that's money, that's that's gone. So what does trevor do?

Katie:

well, trevor talks, tries to get you know the story of what happened. It doesn't sound like he gets the accurate version of what happens or he reads into it a lot.

Lydea:

She also kind of leaves out the sex or the kissing.

Katie:

And it's just like well he had dinner and got a three-piece jazz band.

Lydea:

Yeah Okay, you're kind of missing the you leading him on part.

Katie:

A lot of things happened that should not have happened.

Lydea:

But yeah, so Trevor's like, and he takes the check and goes to Danny's house. We get another door scene. Yep, this door Danny's got his guitar, because that's what he does. Plays his guitar sadly in the open house. And they fight and he's like, punch me. And Danny kind of goes to punch him, but Trevor twists his arm and pins him against the door.

Katie:

We also find out that he's digging being pinned to this door.

Lydea:

Yeah, he's got issues, danny's got issues.

Katie:

He does have a lot of issues they fight.

Lydea:

And then, as Trevor's about to leave, the door's closed and it comes back and he's like look, I don't want you to give up on your physical goals just because we may not be the right gym for you.

Katie:

I don't want you to give up how many times does he walk away and come back? I think three. They just keep talking, yeah, and it just. Danny is at one point laughing on the other side of the door because this is so ridiculous, and the two of them just kind of develop a little friendship out of this.

Lydea:

Trevor brings Danny to the new location, mm-hmm, and they become Business partners. Business partners. The lawyer's there too, with the realtor. They're all there.

Katie:

Yeah. And again, genius Trevor. He's just with the lawyer right Looking at all this paperwork and, oh, this is all standard right. You might want to have your own counsel, yeah, but this is just standard, right, Okay?

Lydea:

The lawyer's pretty funny. The lawyer's like you should probably have your own counsel. Look at it.

Katie:

But also just sign it.

Lydea:

He's just like sneaking the pen under the paper. It's like I told you he did the right thing. He told you to uh seek external counsel he did.

Katie:

The fact that you just didn't do it is not his problem. So another business partners. We cut to kat, who is she's. She's another training session, yeah, and she's with an older man. He decides that he doesn't want to do training anymore. His wife doesn't really care about him losing weight and he just doesn't want to do it anymore. But he would be, yeah, he'd be okay with still being friends with cat and if she wants to come to that birthday party that he's having later that week, she can do that. Fine, I'll come to your stupid birthday party.

Lydea:

I know so, Kat, but he says you're not going to be a trainer forever right, Kat, which is such a weird thing to seriously, what a weird thing to say. There's trainers that are all ages. Like you could literally be a trainer. They make okay money.

Katie:

Well, I suppose it depends on who your clients are and what you're doing and where you're working, and he's trying to come up with this whole philosophy that I'm sure he's trying to expand and develop into a bigger brand.

Lydea:

So you know you could potentially make?

Katie:

Yeah, heck of a lot more, and I think it's also kind of ridiculous, because the idea of doing these sorts of exercises on the regular really has not been around as long as you would think.

Katie:

Yeah. So I mean, who knows what? You know what the future holds? Absolutely yeah. So it's a bizarre thing to say. And she starts to think that, oh, maybe I don't want to be a trainer forever. We've already seen her having to chase down clients for money. We've seen her, you know, have this weird awkward relationship with one client. It's just not something she's really that interested in, nope.

Lydea:

And so she goes to Trevor, she quits her job and then is like now that, now that you're not my boss anymore, do you want to try again? Oh god. And he's like I. I don't see us, you know, working together. I don't see this working yeah, um, yeah and oh, and also me and danny are cool and we're business partners.

Katie:

Yep, yeah, we also have this kind of awkward moment where, like, okay, well, uh, if we're not gonna be, you know, working together, then I don't see why we would ever see each other again. He doesn't really like that so much.

Lydea:

But whatever, it's true is is just because she's at his house at this time and does he say if you walk out that door, I don't see us seeing each other again uh, I think.

Katie:

So they both have this kind of weird like well fine, well fine, well fine, well fine sort of reaction to what each other's saying. They don't say that thankfully this is when he's climbing up. He's clearly in a bar or something and he's doing a little flip over it, yeah, so cat walks out.

Lydea:

Trevor starts training.

Katie:

Danny okay, so we just saw cat leave. We will not see cat again for a long time. Good, I don't know what would you say, maybe hour, 45 minutes, easy. One of our main characters and our female love interest for not one, but two main characters just left now I feel like it's 45 minutes, but also this movie felt like it was really long because you never know where it's going.

Lydea:

It may not have actually been 45 minutes, but it sure felt like it was really long, because you never know where it's going. It may not have actually been 45 minutes, but it sure felt like it was a long time. She disappears for a long time. I think it's telling that your first initial instinct was is she gone for an hour? I know it was a long time, it's a long time.

Katie:

It was a really long time, yeah, so she's gone, we have she's gone, we have she's gone. Danny's life is slowly improving as he's becoming friends with this lawyer, he's becoming friends with Trevor. He's Okay. So he's still, he's still Danny, he's still Danny, but at the same time, he's looking healthier. Yeah, he has the cat now.

Lydea:

Yeah, he got it. So the cat on the leash, how he gets this cat for a second Two points in this movie. He signs up for some online like tasker kind of thing where you sign up and pay people to do things for you. So the first time his TV isn't connected to anything. So he goes online and is like I will pay you $200 to come over right now and connect my TV. So the guy comes over, connects his TV, gives him $200. He's like can you make my laptop Go to the TV? I'll give you another $100. The guy does it the next time. He says I will pay $200 for a healthy cat and he gets a cat delivered to his house, gets a cat.

Lydea:

The cat is super overweight but he tries to go jogging with the cat.

Katie:

Yep On a leash and the cat's just like no, no, but the cat walks sort of. Can you do that? Yep, yep.

Lydea:

I love it. It's possibly my favorite part of the movie. It's great. Him trying to run with the cat like it's a dog.

Katie:

So, like I said, danny's slowly getting. Yeah, a little he's. He is still danny, as you point out, so they have this little get together with the lawyer trevor and danny. This is after their friendship has really started to develop, because we see that in a montage it's our montage they're having this little get together.

Katie:

Uh, danny wants to take trevor to go see this kettlebell master trevor wants to take danny, flip that around trevor wants to take danny to go see this kettlebell master and danny's thinking maybe not because he'd kind of like to go see his ex-wife.

Lydea:

Yeah, he wants to go to new york. He's gonna try and get his ex-wife back. Now that he has all this money and he's, you know, in a little bit better shape, he's doing better, he.

Katie:

Yeah, he wants and trevor points out you know, isn't that going a little backwards, like don't go back to something? That is fucked up? Yeah so the lawyer is drunk, the lawyer kind of they get him to agree to go to bed somewhere in one of the guest rooms will you not drive home drunk and crash in one of my bedrooms and he's like, yes, I will okay?

Katie:

so he, he disappears. We see him the next morning, but he's largely disappeared. We end up with danny and trevor kind of getting into a little bit of a fight because cat comes up yeah, trevor finally spills the beans that he was the one in a relationship with cat and danny comments that cat's still around because he googles her a lot, yeah, which is creepy.

Katie:

Yep, she's in town and he he thinks that he liked her because cat was just another woman to torture him like his wife did. He's not really sure, but then, yeah, they talk about how, oh well, trevor actually was in a relationship with her and he actually really loved her or thought he did loves yes, still loves danny's.

Lydea:

Like nope, you have to get out. You have to tell her get out of my house, tell her get out of my house, get out of my house, yeah. And danny, like, flips out and starts working out while he's drunk.

Katie:

While he's drunk and I was like dude, please stop, you're gonna smash your head to pieces.

Lydea:

Yes, he's like get out of my house. So trevor finally leaves, but comes back the next morning and where's there is met at the door by the lawyer. Again the door, it's gorgeous door really cool.

Katie:

Door lawyer is stoned and amused by everything that's happening and he tells him that Danny is going to sell his share of the company to whomever Yep, Because he doesn't really want to be in business with Trevor anymore. Presumably it's because Trevor had love and just didn't bother to pursue it.

Lydea:

But it's really unclear why Like like. Is it because he's mad at him for sleeping with cat? Is he mad at him for not telling katty loves him? Is he he loves her like I think?

Katie:

it's, it's the whole. Like he's upset that he could have had this relationship, that trevor could have had a good relationship and just didn't do anything about it. Like how dare you, you have the thing that I would want and you just didn't do it. But with the whole selling of the company, yeah, he does sell his half. He's sold it to cat, for it was originally 300.

Katie:

I think she countered with 150 and he accepted, so half of a company, $150. Yep, and Trevor finds out about this because Kat's calling him and she's standing outside the new gym while he's driving. I think he's on his way to the.

Lydea:

Kettlebell Master. To the Kettlebell Master yeah, he's like well, do you want to come with me? Like you shouldn't buy the company, but do you want to come and meet the Kettlebell guy and buy the company? But do you want to come and meet the kettlebell guy? And she's like no, but then she shows up there, gregory.

Katie:

Well, wait a minute. He has to put her on hold at one point because his daughter is daughter calls and she didn't ever know that he had a daughter, despite how long they've worked together and the fact that they were in some sort of relationship.

Lydea:

So Cat is 29 at the start of the movie, 30 at the end of the movie.

Katie:

Yeah, and the daughter is 22. I'm glad I didn't mishear that. I was hoping I'd misheard it, that you would correct it. I didn't want to bring it up. But no, the daughter's 22. Daughter's 22. We don't know how old he's supposed to be.

Lydea:

I mean assuming he was at least 16, he we don't know how old he's supposed to be. I mean assuming he was at least 16, he's a minimum of 38.

Katie:

That's assuming he had a kid at 16, which is like possible, but young, I don't know. It's Guy Pearce. He's quite a bit older. He's attractive. Yeah, the actor is quite a bit older than Coby Smulders anyway.

Lydea:

Yeah, we knew that they it's. It is totally totally possible.

Katie:

We just have no idea how old he is supposed to be in this movie. I'm gonna say minimum 45.

Lydea:

So there like that make me uncomfortable. The age difference is fine, but as soon as you throw in a child who's the same age as the younger person in the relationship, or at least close enough that they could be comfortably siblings. Yeah that's what it makes me real uncomfortable yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah like splitting the difference okay her.

Katie:

I feel like her forceful personality makes her seem like either he is much younger because he is very yeah, he's not gonna say boo to anybody, no, but either he seems much younger because of that or she seems much older because just their personalities are so different. Stuff. I don't like it. No, I don't care for it either, and again, I'm glad I heard that correctly, I wasn't going to say it. Yeah, funny too. So we also have he gets a hold of Danny while all of this is happening too.

Lydea:

Danny's at the airport.

Katie:

Danny is telling him not to call me. I've told you not to call me. He's like Danny, what are you doing? Because now he knows that cat has bought the company or his half of the company. Danny tells trevor that he's training him as trevor trains him, and it's fair.

Lydea:

That's kind of what's happening here yeah, getting them back together, you gotta.

Katie:

You gotta deal with your emotional yep, right, yeah you need to the four pillars yep go develop this emotional health um, as he's flying to new york yeah, so the dinner what? Is this gregory's house? This is so weird hilarious.

Lydea:

So this is like a russian, like a stereotypical kind of russian power lifter trainer guy.

Katie:

He's not a pirate. He's doing kettlebells right. He's not a power lifter but that's the kind of stereotypical. He's someone who is incredibly disciplined about what he does and he definitely puts that face out there into the world, but he does not have a sort of like woo-woo philosophy that he's put together.

Katie:

No philosophy, just no do it yeah, and at one point they're talking about like oh yeah, well, you know a perfect body for you. And he says no, it's not a perfect body, this will one day fail me, we will die. It is not perfect. Like, oh, that's a philosophy I've not heard before.

Lydea:

Well, and I I like that he's like and I I married this woman and she's not perfect and she's cool and but but I still love her, right, right and like you, you should leave. They. They kind of ask him to like, like this is not going out well, because trevor wanted gregory to come like do classes, yeah, yeah and he's like no yeah, it doesn't think it's gonna work, we're not vibing here, but but all of a sudden there are cops outside.

Katie:

Yeah, because cat apparently sped and then sped the entire way. No one stopped or rolled through a stop sign and that's when the cops materialized in front of the house, right in front of the house, and the guy and his wife are very interested in what's going on so they invite her inside. They love her, she's. She's something else, she's great they're.

Lydea:

They're bickering over business and the relationship and and the, the wife, who may or may not have a name, but she's hilarious. I don't think she does wife and and gregory are enjoying, oh, immensely especially the wife, the wife oh, do you want more? Let me go get you more. And at one point Gregory offers Kat another drink and tells his wife to go get it. And Kat's like why does she have to go get it? What? You're just sitting there. It was your idea.

Lydea:

I'll go get it myself, and she gets it, and they're like like really into it and they gregory, and, oh, aaron the wife's name is aaron oh, okay yeah, so so they, they kind of dig it, and on the way home, I guess he's staying like at a airbnb rental?

Katie:

yeah, because they do. And yeah, yeah, yeah, it's this weird little location type thing and they end up at a restaurant the next morning Like a motor home.

Lydea:

Yeah, kind of thing. Oh, his dog's there. No, he took the dog on the trip with him and they stay overnight. Where did the dog go during dinner? Sitting in the car? Staying at the Airbnb thing? Oh, no idea, the rental, I don't know the. I felt bad for the dog a lot of times.

Lydea:

yeah so he takes the dog the next morning. They both do their separate workouts. He takes the dog on one run and she goes for her run and they kind of cross paths and he ties the dog to a tree and then chases after her.

Katie:

It's very weird. And then they make out and then somehow the dog does end up back home Like no one steals the dog, he doesn't leave the dog, he just picks up the dog after they've like made out on the street and then they go back to have sex. I guess, yep, well, that's happening. We have Danny in New York, yeah, with his ex, and she is threatening violence with a cheese grater if he tries to get back together with her. She's done, she wants to move on Yep.

Katie:

That's it. She's not into trying this again. Nope, do not try and romance me. Nope, um, so then we get our egg white omelets. Yep, we're at a diner, they're discussing business. Apparently no one has ever asked for an egg white omelet before, because the waitress is very confused and the chef didn't know and well, the chef knew, but he'd never done it before and yeah, the wage.

Lydea:

How do you separate the whites from the yolk? And he's like, oh, you just do the different so many recipes you could literally just take the yolk out, because it's pretty solid, yeah, and or you could do the like the pass it back and forth, which you can just do this like the little pour through yeah, but there's so many recipes that call for just yolks or just egg whites.

Katie:

Yeah, and it's not a health thing.

Lydea:

Sometimes it's a you're gonna give the bread a nice like sheen and you have to use, you know, your egg white just for that, or or you're whipping up an angel food cake which is like all egg whites, or you're doing a pound cake which is all egg whites, or you're doing a pound cake which is all egg yolks, which is why, a lot of times, I'll make both at the same time.

Katie:

It's just so weird that she has no idea like this is a thing, but anyway. So the two of them are discussing business, yep, and Kat could be like the good businesswoman and he can be out there being the face, because she's not into the woo-woo, the woo-woo or or any.

Lydea:

Yeah, really, it's just a job. It's just a job for her yeah, she, she doesn't believe it.

Katie:

And she says that's why it works is because he believes it.

Lydea:

Yep, but for her she's just gonna do the job yep, she can be the the behind the scenes business partner actually depositing the checks Yep. Getting money from clients? Yeah, and the waitress comes over with the check and she's going to pay. She confronts the waitress is like why is there a substitution on here? Oh well, we had to use the egg whites and we've never done that before. But that's not a substitution, it's a subtraction.

Lydea:

Right, you use the same amount of eggs, you just take away a thing and the waitress is like, well, but, but it's, but, we had to do something. And even trevor's like, oh, but they had to do something new and they've never did it's extra time and extra steps. And she's like, no, no, no. And trevor's like, just take my card and charge it and you'll get a good tip. And she takes the kettlebell that she's drawn an angry face on and cat just like slams it on the table.

Katie:

They got free kettlebells, promotional kettlebells from gregory's uh online yes, that they're going to stock in their gym baby. Yeah, I don't know why there's an angry face on the kettlebell, but she drew it on there. Yep, there's kind of this awkward like eventual conveying of feelings.

Lydea:

Yeah, he finally says I love you, but in a real throwaway manner, and her reaction to it.

Katie:

It's a kind of a grudging acceptance that, oh yeah, she kind of loves him too. It doesn't feel like the passion that you would hope for, especially what an hour and 40 minutes in yeah, yeah, yeah, this is basically in the movie so they're, you know, they kiss whatever. Blah, blah, blah.

Lydea:

We have danny going into a sorority house, so so cat has told, told Danny that he needs to find a starter wife.

Katie:

This is when Danny is being attacked by a. It's kind of like a practice girlfriend. Yeah, he's being attacked in a park in New York. It's so weird, he gets beat up. He took a punch, though he did. Yeah, he didn't really get beat up, he took a punch, that's right.

Lydea:

Nope, guy ran off out of nowhere guy, just punches him and runs off. But yeah, he he's. She tells him you know, go to go to a bar with some blonde girls, tell everybody you're rich, yeah, you'll find someone. Just she doesn't have to be perfect, she just has to be nice yeah you, she has to be nice to you.

Katie:

And I think one of them throws in because he's on speaker with trevor and cat, and uh, one of them throws in because he's on speaker with trevor and cat and uh, one of them throws in to go to a sorority house.

Lydea:

I think cat does, yeah, and so he does.

Katie:

He just walks into a sorority which is not at all creepy night or something they're in there like doing their nails and watching tv show and he just comes in is like hi, so I'm a multi-millionaire and I want to throw you a party.

Lydea:

I hear you guys do lots of it's probably your good work yeah, all this good stuff and I think you guys deserve a party. I'll have booze and band and you can bring your friends and the last scene is just the lawyer, danny, kat and Trevor and a bunch of sorority girls, and then the band from earlier. Yeah, who played themselves. They're an actual band, which I thought was nice, Cool. And that's the last scene. The credits roll and they just dance to music. That's not really sorority dancing music.

Katie:

No.

Lydea:

But you know.

Katie:

This felt so weird to me because we had so many stories that were just not wrapped up. I expected something to happen with the business. You know that we'd get some sort of closure with the business, because he's a terrible businessman. He's clearly overextending. What are they going to do with this? Are they going to have enough money to pay for it? Is he going to? Is Kat going to take over her share? Like what's going to happen? We have Danny, you know, just trying to figure himself out and he's horribly depressed. He doesn't really have any friends. He's trying to get a girlfriend, but we don't see any resolution with that. It's just very strange. It just kind of stops. Yep. The only thing that we have resolved is that cat and trevor are now in some sort of relationship, which I don't think is gonna last, and danny is apparently friends with trevor again. Not that they ever maybe weren't friends, I think. Think Trevor really was trying to teach him something in his own Trevor.

Katie:

Sorry, Danny is why can't I do this? Oh, it's terrible. Yeah, I just felt this one. It's one of those movies where there's not really much of a story. This is a snippet of a much larger story yeah, there's.

Lydea:

There's a beginning. Is there a middle?

Katie:

I think we end in the middle. Yeah, stuff's still happening. We haven't resolved anything we've resolved one thing, which is trevor has told cat that he loves her and cat grudgingly was like, yeah, okay, but we don't really know what that relationship is going to do. It's not like they're ending in such a point where you say, ah yes, okay, this will be fine, or I can see where this is going, yeah.

Lydea:

So, katie, before we keep talking about this because I do want to keep talking about this At the end of each movie I like to ask you at the end of each recap, I like to ask you to rate the movie on a scale of one to five emojis. This week, we are going with the weightlifter emoji. So, katie, how many weightlifting emojis would you rate results?

Katie:

I'm actually going to give this a three. I did enjoy the movie. Do I think it's a rom-com? No, I don't, really I don't. But I did enjoy the movie. I spent a lot of time thinking where is this going, what is going to happen next, and I was actually engaged. I think that's why I'm going to give it a decent rating. Here you have so many movies where it's like, oh okay, well, it's background watching or something. You just put it on. No, I actually wanted to know what was going to happen next. They put some, with the exception of Cat, who I just did not care for. I was interested in seeing what was going on with everybody else.

Lydea:

Yeah.

Katie:

And everybody else. I would toss in the lawyer maybe in addition to Trevor and Danny.

Lydea:

The lawyer is interesting. I totally see where you're coming from. I'm going to give it a one and a half, I appreciate that I totally.

Katie:

I get that, trust me I get that, I get your three.

Lydea:

I'm glad you get my one and a half. Yeah, it was just where, like you said, it had a beginning, it had the middle and cons and know how I said this felt like an indie film and then we discovered it was it was so clearly sorry, uh, it was so clearly an indie film and and like the, the acting was really good, the characters were interesting, but the storyline was lacking.

Lydea:

Nothing happened, just just people. People doing things upset at each other for for no real reason and then kind of not being upset at each other, but kind of still being upset at each other.

Katie:

Well, I mean the being upset with each other. If you're talking about just danny, yeah, I mean that's just, he's just a weird guy, he's a hard guy to wrap your head around, whereas everything else it just felt very slice of life with, with danny thrown into it.

Lydea:

Danny and his general weirdness just thrown in would I ever, under any circumstances, call this a rom-com?

Katie:

I don't think I would yeah, I don't think I would either I.

Lydea:

I don't think it's a romance. I don't really think it's a comedy, it's no. I'd call it more of a drama than a comedy.

Katie:

Yeah, it's a drama without being overly dramatic yeah, yeah in that slice of life it is a it is a drama in that things are acted it is.

Lydea:

It is a shakespearean comedy in that nobody dies at the end people can still die in shakespearean comedies.

Katie:

Exit pursuit by a bear totally happens anyway, but it's it's, it's kind of it, just it just happens.

Lydea:

It's just a move, it's just a movie that you've watched yeah, no, this is. This is totally just a slice of life thing which is, I realize, is totally a sundance, like it's an indie film thing they love, they love themselves, uh a slice of life.

Katie:

I don't think it's bad. It's just not the fair that I would normally seek out no, and it's not a rom-com no I whoever classified this as a rom-com oh, it's the same people who classify so many of our movies as rom-coms and we have to sit and debate like is this actually a rom-com?

Lydea:

yeah, I think this one is one of the more obvious.

Katie:

This is not it's just that there are people who are uh interested in having relationships with each other and there are a few like oh, that's kind of a funny thing I know one of my own personal definitions of rom-com is that the movie kind of has to be about the romance or about. This definitely was not Definitely was not.

Lydea:

It was not. It was really about Danny and like, yeah, okay, danny was attracted to cat, but Danny wasn't ever really into cat.

Katie:

He would. Well, he does ask her like did I ever have a chance with you?

Lydea:

And she's like no, no, what's the short version? No.

Katie:

What's the short version? No. What's the long version? No, I it's more like. Cat is kind of um, she's more like a prop or something to just kind of move the story along, because the story really is about the two guys individually. Yeah, not even so much about their friendship, but it's kind of how the two of them are progressing in this tiny little section of their lives. Yeah, and she is just a thing that happens to move the plot ahead for them.

Lydea:

I feel like that's accurate. And again, the acting was incredible for everybody. Everybody did a great job. Yeah, like worked with the characters that they were given.

Katie:

They just um, I what I will say is that, again, I watch movies to be entertained, and I did find this one engaging. So at the very least it was an engaging film, even if it's not one that I would have sought out or that I would necessarily watch again.

Lydea:

Nope, yeah, it was a little. There were definitely slow moments where I was like, okay, how long is, where are we at in this one?

Katie:

right, that's how I judge. How long is kept, am I engaged?

Lydea:

I'm engaged if I'm not checking to see how much more of the movie is left and I think there was a one point where I checked it and there was still 45 minutes left and I was like oh, okay, um, so I was. I was not as engaged as I no, that's okay, that's okay um, so ch Chris gave it a 1.5.

Lydea:

With that I think my math is correct that gives us a 2. So with 2 weightlifter emojis, results. That's going to be our show for results. Thank you so much for listening.
